Reproduction “Jazz Bass”-style felt mutes handmade in the USA like the
originals. These will give your bass a wooly thud like no foam mute ever could,
as the felt softly hugs the strings rather than simply pushing up against them.
If you have ever wanted that first Zeppelin album’s bass sound, felt mutes were
what John Paul Jones had equipped. these can be adjusted by sliding closer or
further away from the bridge and adjusted for pressure and string contact by
bending down. The felt slot will naturally break in with play and soften the
muting further, however you can also deepen the slot manually with a sawing
motion on a string to fine tune intonation. Check out Danny Sapkos video
featuring a set of Thud Muffins muted for a good sound comparison!
Specs:
Laser-cut from steel, strong-yet purposefully bendable to achieve the desired
muting on various setups.
High quality French wool felt with slots, two felt lengths are available:
shorts and long, early examples of the original Fender mutes typically had felt
cut around 5/8” (or shorter) the newer reissues with felts just under 1”.
Please message me your preference otherwise the longer felts will be standard!
NEW: ‘staggered’ felt lengths also by request, this was a common modification
seen on old sets, this option will have the felt lengths going from longest on
the low string to shortest on the high string like John Paul Jones modified set!
