1st few photos are of the WYSIWYG coral on a standard 3/4" Alternative Reef
frag plug. The last photo is an example of a grown-out piece or colony it
originated from.
This Stylcoeniella from World Wide Corals named "Electric Daisy" is one of the
more colorful variants found in the hobby, with a fuchsia body and incredibly
fluorescent neon green polyps. As the name implies, it looks like there's an
EDM concert going on with all of these bright neon colors. World Wide Corals
originally attained this piece in 2017 from a wholesaler and split it with
Jason Fox Corals, before releasing their first frag in 2019.
Stylocoeniellas are among some of our favorite corals to keep. Stylocoeniellas
are very special corals that you do not see often in the aquarium hobby, with
only a small handful of aquarium trade-named pieces that are farmed.
Stylcoeniellas are typically only imported into the hobby as hitchhikers on
other coral colonies.
They are considered to be "SPS" corals, as their care levels are similar to
other encrusting corals such as Porites and Montiporas but do very well under
lower lighting conditions (although they may adapt to higher lighting over
time). They're a great choice of coral to grow if you have a lower-light area
of your reef you'd like to have covered. Just be sure to give them ample room
to grow, as they will encrust over your rockwork.
When kept in ideal conditions, some species of Stylocoeniella polyps will
extend and flow with the currents, resembling a cross between a Montipora and
Goniopora. We sometimes have reefers refer to them as "fluffy" Montiporas when
they see a Stylocoeniella in person for the first time.
