The parang style machete is based on the popular tool from the Malaysian archipelago. The parang is shaped to be optimized for a stronger chopping action with a heavier blade and a "sweet spot" further forward of the handle; the blade has a more obtusely bevelled edge to help prevent it from binding in the cut when working on green vegetation.
